He shifted focus: he went from ‘what role do I want?’ To ‘what impact can I contribute to?’ The change of ambition from self to contribution has been central in his career choices. The Australian Rural Leadership Foundation (ARLF) is led by Matt Linnegar, who carries years of experience in rural, agricultural and representative roles, and is himself a Fellow of the Australian Rural Leadership Program (ARLP).

Matt joined the Foundation in mid-2014 after a successful three-year period as CEO of the National Farmers' Federation. He brings almost 20 years in agricultural representation - including roles in irrigation, rice, and meat and livestock industries.

Matt has held an array of roles in leadership and management, including as General Manager, Corporate and Customer Operations at Murrumbidgee Irrigation Limited and Executive Director, Ricegrower’s Association of Australia.

Matt holds a degree in Applied Science (Systems Agriculture) from the University of Western Sydney (Hawkesbury), is a graduate of Course 7 of the ARLP and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
